ABOUT CHRIS HORTON

Chris Horton hails from De La Salle High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a Freshman in high school Chris imposed his dominance wearing #5.  Chris was named to the all district team two times while also being named District MVP during his time at De La Salle. Chris attended UCLA where he  won the Paul I. Wellman award for all around excellence as a defensive player. He was also named to the All American first team by The Sporting News. Chris earned All-Pac-10 conference first-team honors in 2007.

In 2008 Chris was selected in the 7th round of the NFL draft by the Redskins. So far in his young career, Chris has already earned Rookie of the Week, NFL Defensive player of the week, and has proven to be the surprise talent of the 2008 draft.

Chris acquired the nickname Predator because he has been growing his dreads out for 6 plus years.  Although Chris is a professional athlete he is extremely interested in becoming a coach or pursing a career as an FBI agent.

College:

  • Played in 41 career games with 28 starts and recorded 238 tackles (160 solo), four interceptions, three sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries
  • Earned first-team All-America honors from The Sporting News in 2007

2007 Season:

  • Started all 13 games and earned first-team All-America honors from The Sporting News and first-team All-Pacific-10 conference accolades and was the defensive co-winner of UCLAs Paul I. Wellman Award for All-Around Excellence
  • Ranked second on the team with 90 tackles
  • Had five tackles (two solo) and a forced fumble which led to a field goal against BYU (9/8)
  • Led the team with a career-high 16 tackles (nine solo) at Washington State (10/27)
  • Recorded the first three sacks of his career and was second on the team with eight tackles (six solo) against Arizona State (11/10)
  • Made seven tackles (five solo) and broke up one pass against Brigham Young (12/22) in the Las Vegas Bowl

2006 Season:

  • Started all 13 games for UCLA at strong safety and was the defensive winner of Paul I. Wellman Award for All-Around Excellence
  • Led the team with 95 tackles and his average of 7.31 tackles per game ranked ninth in the Pac-10
  • Collected five tackles (four solo), recovered a fumble and had an interception that led to a fourth-quarter touchdown against Stanford (9/30)
  • Led the team with nine tackles (seven solo), including one for a loss and broke up a pass against Washington State (10/28)
  • Recorded a then career-high 12 tackles (10 solo) at Arizona State (11/18)
  • Had six tackles and posted his third interception of the season against Florida State (12/27)

2005 Season:

  • Played in six games with two starts
  • Suffered a right wrist dislocation in practice (8/17) and underwent surgery the next day
  • Had the pins removed from his wrist (10/12)
  • He made seven tackles (six solo) in his first career start against Southern California (12/3)
  • Was second on the team with 10 tackles (four solo) and had one pass defended against Northwestern (12/30)

2004 Season:

  • Played in nine games. Had seven tackles and a fourth- quarter interception that led to UCLA’s final touchdown against Illinois (9/11)
  • Blocked a punt out of the end zone against Arizona (10/9)
  • Blocked a punt in the second quarter against USC (12/24)

2003 Season:

  • Redshirted as a freshman
